Hmm blocks propably was not the correct for what I meant :). I mean more like Prefabs where the artist would build everything in a particular scale and you can assamble them together in an editor. I'll draw a picture, its easier to explain what I mean this way :).

My rough concept of Ringo.. Similiar to yours, except, yellow, and I had his eyes out, but they can be in.

Hey, looks nice too. I'll see what we can do tomorow when I'm going to visit him. We will talk about it then.

I've drawn the promised picture.
http://www.malwasandres.de/prefabs.PNG

I mean a level could be build out of these building blocks and be assambled together in an editor.
This would make it much easier for ogre to cull out unneeded meshes and it would speed up the level creation time alot.

It would be very nice to sort this out as soon as possible.
I need something to do for my artist or he is propably going to loose interest sooner or later.

That definately has the style of Sonic.. One thing though, is that Ringo should really be in a 3D world. And a 3D camera/view, Of course, we can still use 3d platforms that look like those in parts of the world ;)

I think, various enemies can be worked on pretty easily, as they can be anything.. I had in mind various wheeled baddies, and perhaps a flying baddie or two that would try to 'hook' up the ringo guy, and throw him around/or off platforms, the level. I am not much of a story board guy, but I think something like that might help create a finer idea. Perhaps you are a better writter/game designer than I? I am open to any type of action/story events right now. I'll also try to put some stuff together.

Ah so you want to make the game real 3D? I mean I thought you would play the game like Sonic or SMB but with 3D Graphics.

I'm thinking he is talking about maybe more of a sonic adventures style type thing? In full 3D?

Definately, full 3d :)

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Ringo will be a fully 3D game, but will take gameplay elements and a sort of style from the older series :)

Why fully 3D? I I never liked full 3D jump n runs that much. The camera just often gets to quirky and "in my way". Plus a 2D jump n run with 3D graphics has much much more stylisch gameplay than a full 3D game. Note I talk about jump and runs games here. Just take Tomb Raider Legend as an example (wich is a great game with a few shortcoming). When I play TRL I often have to stop, position and orient Lara before I can make a successfull jump. 3D is in my oppinion not made for jump and runs. Its made for action games where you can shoot things when you are not climbing. :)

Well, perhaps a compromise. There could be some levels perhaps with the 'old' 2D feel, and some levels with a 3D movement. Even Sonic, which was 2D on the Genisis, had some levels which were 3D'ish (mainly, i remember the halfpipe).

I've got a couple of neat ideas for this:
Replace his "eyes" with magnets, which are detachable, and can hook on to surfaces, such as a metal ceiling or something.

Make his eyes oval, and cartoony, and I'd give him Rayman-style hands, but maybe with arms. I just think that "look" would fit the game better.

I'll post some drawings later, It'll make more sense then

Here is what we have so far. It is untextured just with some basic colors applied. We have added a backpack wich we thought makes him look much more interesting. It can also act as a jetpack, hence the rocket  :)
